우리에게도 익숙한 이 음악, 특히 스포츠 경기에서 가장 많이 들었던 미국 국가 '성조기여 영원하라(The Star-Spangled Banner)' 가 탄생한 도시가 바로 이 볼티모어이다. 1814년 볼티모어 출신인 프랜시스 스콧 키(Francis Scott Key)의 '맥 헨리 기지의 방어' 라는 시가 원문이다. 인구 구성의 65%가 아프리카계 흑인이고, 로마 가톨릭교가 가장 큰 비중을 차지하고 있다고 한다.

2019년은 불행하게도 단 한번의 여행으로 그것도 매우 짧은 8박 9일만이 나에게 허락된 시간이었고, 그 시간을 알차게 보내기 위해 여행 계획을 짜는데 골머리를 앓기도 했으나, 어쨌든 올해도 그 과업을 이어나갈 수 있었다. 참, 살아갈수록 왜 이렇게 삶이 각박하고 힘든지 알 수가 없다. 이제 나에게 탈출구는 여행이 전부인 듯 싶다. 야구도 예전처럼 재미있지는 않으니 말이다.
(Unfortunately, only so short time of 8 nights 9 days with travel once was permitted to me in 2019, it was bother my head of planning travel schedule for meaningfully spending the time though, anyway the bucket list was able to continue this year. Huh, the more living, the living why life's heartless and tough...... I'm reducing interest about baseball as the past.)
그렇다고 할지라도, 여전히 나의 버킷 리스트 달성 그리고 재설정은 계속될 것이고, 야구에 대한 흥미도 완전히 사라지지는 않을 것 같다. 모든 부분은 아니어도 여러가지 일들이 잘 풀리게 되면 다시 찾을 수 있겠지. 물론 여행은 항상 나를 행복하게 만드는 삶의 활력소이다.
(Although that, achieving and resetting my bucket list is still continued, I don't think it disappears interest of baseball. Even if it isn't everthing, it will be able to find again if some things go well. Of course, travel is always my tonic that makes me happy.)

짧은 시간인만큼 치열하게 일정을 소화했고, 사실 순수한 관광 목적으로 간 곳이 별로 없다. 뭐, 주목적은 MLB 야구장 투어이니 큰 상관은 없었지만 말이다. 역시 항상 하던 패턴대로, 각 도시별로 순수 관광-야구장-야구 게임 이렇게 글을 써볼까 한다. 나중에 이 글들을 다시 보면 부끄러울 때가 한두번이 아니긴 해도 이렇게 나의 역사가 점점 쌓이는 건 꽤 기분 좋은 일이다.
(I intensely digested my schedules as short time, honestly there aren't some places that go aiming at pure tour. Well, it didn't matter so my main purpose's tour of MLB ballparks. By my pattern that I have written every time, I'm going to post pure tour-ballparks-baseball game each cities. Even though it used to feel shameful whenver I read these posts again later, accumulating my histories like this is pretty good.)
1. [2019 MLB TOUR(2)] 미국의 국가가 탄생한 그 곳, 볼티모어 (Baltimore, The Place that anthem of USA births)
[이너 하버(Inner Harbor)]
미국에서의 3일째 밤, 볼티모어-워싱턴 마셜 공항에 도착하여 light-rail을 타고 캠든 야드 쪽으로 이동하면서 느낀 점은 정말 볼티모어의 치안은 보통 한국인의 멘탈로는 이기기 쉽지 않다는 것이었다. 거기서 숙소까지 우버를 타기에도 금액이 꽤 비싸서 전철을 이용했는데 비행기까지 연착한 바람에 저녁 9시 넘어서 도착했으니...... 물론 다 같은 사람이니 크게 무서워할 필요는 없기는 하지만 오클랜드보다 사람들의 수가 많았어서 그런지 더 무섭게 느껴졌다. 나중에 여행에서 돌아와 관련 자료를 여기저기 찾아보니 내가 정말 용감한 사람이었다는 걸 다시 한번 깨달을 수 있었다.
사실 내가 에어비앤비를 통해 예약한 숙소도 다운타운에서 3블럭 정도 벗어난 빈민가 안에 있었던 거 같기는 했는데, 내가 지냈던 집은 깔끔하면서도 시설도 꽤 괜찮았고, 집주인도 친절한 사람이었다. 그저 밤에만 돌아다니지 않고, 차로 이동하면 별 문제는 없는 듯 하다.
(The 3rd night in America, the feeling part that I arrived at Baltimore-Washington Thurgood Marshall Airport and moved to Camden Yards riding light-rail was what normal Korean isn't easy to stay. It used right-rail due to expensive fare using Uber from airport to my accommodation, I arrived over 9 pm at airport caused by delaying airline...... Of course, we don't need to feel scared with same people though, I feel more scared whether there were people more than Oakland. To search informations about Baltimore after coming back home, I could realize I am really brave person.
In fact, my accommodation reseving by Airbnb was into slub area of 3 blocks from downtown, but my one was tidy and pretty good facilities, owner was a kind woman. I think it isn't a big problem that it doesn't look around and use a car there at only night.)
[펠스 포인트에 들어서서... (Coming at Fells Point)]
펠스 포인트는 볼티모어의 남동쪽에 위치한 역사 지구 겸 부두로써, 1763년 볼티모어 항구의 남쪽 해안과 패탑스코 강의 북서쪽 지류를 따라 지정된 구역이다. 그 인근은 250여년 내내, 아일랜드와 독일, 폴란드인 등과 우크라이나와 러시아, 체코, 슬로바키아와 같은 동유럽인들, 즉 나름 긴 역사를 가지고 있는 이민자들의 거주지였다. 1970년대 이후, 중산층들이 꾸준히 늘어나기 시작하면서 역사적인 명소들과 상업 지역을 복원하고 보존시켰으며, 워터택시가 주요 관광지와 다운타운을 잘 연결해주고 있다.
(Fells Point is historical area and waterfront neighborhood in southeastern Baltimore, was established along north shore of Baltimore Harbor and Northwestern Branch of Patapsco River in 1763. The neighborhood was historic home of immagrant population of Irish and Germans and Poles and etc, Eastern European such as Ukrainians and Russians and Czechs and Slovaks. Since 1970s, middle-upper-income residents were steadily increasing, historical homes and businesses restored and preserved, watertaxi is connecting main tourist attractions and downtown well.)
[펠스 포인트 풍경(Landscapes of Fells Point)]
유럽 이민자들의 거주지답게 아름다운 건물들과 전통적인 건물들이 조화를 이루고 있고, 아기자기하고 이쁜 카페와 상점, 음식점, 바 등 매우 많은 편의시설들이 위치해있어 볼티모어 안에서 비교적 안전하게 돌아다닐 수 있는 곳이다.
(Beautiful and traditional buildings harmonize such as here's residence of European migrant, it locates many facilities of cute and pretty cafes and shops, restaurant, bar, etc, so it is the place that we can relatively walk around within Baltimore.)
[워터 택시를 타고 패탑스코 강에서... (At Patapsco River riding watertax...)]
언제부턴가 저질 체력이 되었는지 이 당시에도 너무 피곤한 상태였던터라 펠스 포인트 안을 돌아다니면서 점심 식사를 한 후 워터 택시를 타고 이 곳에서 다운타운 쪽인 이너하버를 왕복으로 다녀왔다. 여전히 경기 시간까지 시간이 남았던 상황이었기에 젤라토를 먹으며 좀 쉬다가 다시 워터택시를 타고 이너하버로 돌아갔다. 어차피 1일 패스를 끊은 상황이라 원없이 타도 되었기 때문에......
(I felt tired so much whether my physical strength haven't been increasing from someday, I went to Inner Harbor being downtown by round trip riding watertaxi after eating lunch. I had gelato and took some breaktime, went back to Inner Harbor riding watertaxi again. Because I could ride watertax all day caused by I bought one day pass......)
[이너 하버에서... (At Inner Harbor...)]
이너 하버는 다운타운 안에 위치해있다. 이 곳 역시도 그닥 위험하지는 않은 상업 지구이고, 주위에 존 홉킨스 병원과 대학교들, 스포츠 구장들이 있어서 대체적으로 사람들로 붐비는 지역이다. 볼티모어라는 도시는 정말 다양한 특성을 지니고 있는 듯 싶다. 이 곳과 펠스 포인트는 안전한 편인데 몇 블럭만 나가면 빈민가에 위험한 곳도 도사리고 있으니 뭔가 매우 아깝다는 생각이 많이 든다.
젠트리피케이션이 정말 필요한 곳이 볼티모어나 오클랜드, 디트로이트 같은 위험군에 속하는 지역일텐데 디트로이트 공항은 들러봤어도 디트로이트 내부는 돌아다닌 적이 없어서 제외한다고 쳐도 볼티모어는 정말 무궁무진한 가능성이 있는 곳이라 더 아까운 느낌이다.
(Inner Harbor locates within downtown. This place's commecial area not dangerous as well, there are many people due to Johh Hopkins Hospital and universities, sports stadiums near this place. I think Baltimore city really has various features. This place and Fells Point are safe, but there are slum and dangerous spaces if it goes to several blocks, so I think something is so shame.
The places that gentrification definately needs will be some dangerous area like Baltimore and Oakland and Detroit, even if Detroit excludes cause I've never been inside Detroit city even I stopped by Detroit Wayne County Intl' Airport, I feel more shame so Baltimore has huge potential.)
