우리에게도 익숙한 이 음악, 특히 스포츠 경기에서 가장 많이 들었던 미국 국가 '성조기여 영원하라(The Star-Spangled Banner)' 가 탄생한 도시가 바로 이 볼티모어이다. 1814년 볼티모어 출신인 프랜시스 스콧 키(Francis Scott Key)의 '맥 헨리 기지의 방어' 라는 시가 원문이다. 인구 구성의 65%가 아프리카계 흑인이고, 로마 가톨릭교가 가장 큰 비중을 차지하고 있다고 한다.

2019년은 불행하게도 단 한번의 여행으로 그것도 매우 짧은 8박 9일만이 나에게 허락된 시간이었고, 그 시간을 알차게 보내기 위해 여행 계획을 짜는데 골머리를 앓기도 했으나, 어쨌든 올해도 그 과업을 이어나갈 수 있었다. 참, 살아갈수록 왜 이렇게 삶이 각박하고 힘든지 알 수가 없다. 이제 나에게 탈출구는 여행이 전부인 듯 싶다. 야구도 예전처럼 재미있지는 않으니 말이다.
(Unfortunately, only so short time of 8 nights 9 days with travel once was permitted to me in 2019, it was bother my head of planning travel schedule for meaningfully spending the time though, anyway the bucket list was able to continue this year. Huh, the more living, the living why life's heartless and tough...... I'm reducing interest about baseball as the past.)
그렇다고 할지라도, 여전히 나의 버킷 리스트 달성 그리고 재설정은 계속될 것이고, 야구에 대한 흥미도 완전히 사라지지는 않을 것 같다. 모든 부분은 아니어도 여러가지 일들이 잘 풀리게 되면 다시 찾을 수 있겠지. 물론 여행은 항상 나를 행복하게 만드는 삶의 활력소이다.
(Although that, achieving and resetting my bucket list is still continued, I don't think it disappears interest of baseball. Even if it isn't everthing, it will be able to find again if some things go well. Of course, travel is always my tonic that makes me happy.)

짧은 시간인만큼 치열하게 일정을 소화했고, 사실 순수한 관광 목적으로 간 곳이 별로 없다. 뭐, 주목적은 MLB 야구장 투어이니 큰 상관은 없었지만 말이다. 역시 항상 하던 패턴대로, 각 도시별로 순수 관광-야구장-야구 게임 이렇게 글을 써볼까 한다. 나중에 이 글들을 다시 보면 부끄러울 때가 한두번이 아니긴 해도 이렇게 나의 역사가 점점 쌓이는 건 꽤 기분 좋은 일이다.
(I intensely digested my schedules as short time, honestly there aren't some places that go aiming at pure tour. Well, it didn't matter so my main purpose's tour of MLB ballparks. 4. [MLB TOUR(25)] 오리올 파크 앳 캠든 야즈 : 볼티모어 오리올스의 홈구장 (Oriole Park at Camden Yards : Home of the Baltimore Orioles)
볼티모어 오리올스의 홈구장 오리올 파크 앳 캠든 야즈는 미국 내에서도 아름다운 야구장으로 꼽히는 곳 중 하나이다. 1990년대말에서 2000년대 초, 복고풍의 메이저리그 야구장의 건설이 유행하는 동안 다운타운 내에 그 중 첫번째로 지어진 곳 이 바로 이 오리올 파크이고, 또한 캠든 야즈라고 부르는 사람들도 많다.
(Oriole Park at Camden Yards being home of the Baltimore Orioles is one of the most beautiful ballparks within USA. In the end of 1990s to the early of 2000s, the ballpark was constructed at the first is just Oriole Park within downtown while construction of retro major league ballpark is catching on, there are many people calling "Camden Yards" as well.)
1954년 세인트루이스에서 이 곳으로 옮긴 이후, 메모리얼 구장을 쓰다가 1992년 4월 개막전 때부터 이 곳을 사용하기 시작했다. 특이한 점은 이 구역 안에 창고가 있었는데 이를 허무는 대신 야구장 건설 계획에 포함시켜 사무실과 다른 서비스 공간, 프라이빗 클럽 등으로 조성했다는 부분이고, 다운타운 내에 위치한 복고풍의 아름다운 디자인으로 인해 팬 친화적인 환경을 조성한 끝에 많은 관중을 불러들이며 큰 성공을 거뒀다. 이후 이 곳으로부터 영감을 얻은 많은 야구장이 지어졌는데 크게 클래식한 복고풍 스타일의 구장과 현대적인 복고풍 스타일의 구장으로 구분되고 있는 것 같다.

[In 1954, Baltimore Orioles used Memorial Stadium after moving from St. Louis, has started to use this place since opening day in April, 1992. Special thing's having warehouse within this space, it incorporated into architecture plan of ballpark rather than demolish, fostered offices and other service and private club and etc, it gathers many attendance caused by creating fan-friendly circumstance by retro beautiful design into downtown, successed largely. After that, many ballparks being inspired from this one were built, it seems to be sorted retro-classic ballpark and retro-modern ballpark.

난 아무래도 클래식 복고풍 스타일을 더 선호하는 것 같다. 물론 미국의 거의 모든 야구장들이 아름답지만 특히 내가 좋아하는 야구장들은 양키 스타디움을 제외하곤 클래식에 다 모여있는 것 같다. 글로브 라이프 파크도 좀 아쉬운 게 이쁜 야구장 중 하나인데 너무나 더운 날씨 탓에 내년부터는 글로브 라이프 필드에서 경기를 치루게 된다.
(I think I prefer retro-classic style. Of course, almost ballparks in USA are beautiful, but especially my favorite ones are almost into class-retro lists except Yankee Stadium. The shame thing about Globe Life Park a little is one of beautiful ballparks, they are going to play at Globe Life Field from next season due to so sweltering weather.)
[오리올 파크 입구... (Entrance at Oriole Park in Eutaw Street)]
경기장 개방 시간에 맞춰 도착은 했으나, 같이 보기로 한 친구가 DC 지역에서 넘어오는 상황이라 좀 늦어져서 근처 스타벅스에서 좀 쉰 후 야구장 외부 공간을 구경했다. 다른 미국 친구들이 캠든 야즈 또한 매우 아름답다고 이야기를 한터라 어느 정도는 괜찮을 거라 생각했는데 예상보다 너무나 매력적이었다. 앞에 언급했듯이 깔끔하게 정돈된 복고풍 스타일은 많은 사람들에게 감동을 줄 수 밖에 없는 것 같다.
베이브 루쓰 동상이 있는 이유는 그가 태어난 곳이 이 곳이기 때문이다. 레드삭스와 양키스의 선수긴 했으나, 실제 출생 장소는 이 곳이라 여기서 멀지 않은 곳에 베이브 루쓰 박물관도 있다. 내 숙소에서도 가까운 곳이긴 했는데, 실제로 들르지는 않았다.
(I arrived in open time of ballpark though, I looked around outside ballpark after taking a break so my friends were being late from DC area. Many American friends said Camden Yards are also very beautiful, so I thought it is right, it was very charming than I expected. As I said on the head, clean and tidy retro style gives impression to many people.
The reason that statue of Babe Ruth is here is he birthed in this city. He was a Red Sox and Yankee player though, there is museum of Babe Ruth near this place cause he actually birthed here. The one was close with my accommodation, however I visited there.)

일행이 있어서 구석구석을 다 돌아보진 못했고, 친구의 이야기로는 이 콩코스 곳곳에 있는 야구공 모양의 철제 조각은 이 곳에서 비거리가 긴 홈런을 친 선수들의 흔적이라고 한다. 웬만한 홈런은 관중석 안으로 떨어지겠지만 중앙의 일부분에 드러나있는 저 콩코스에 간혹 선수들의 홈런공이 넘어가는데 홈팀이든 어웨이팀이든 관계없이 그 내용을 기념하고 있다. 나의 페이보릿 선수도 스탯캐스트 시대가 시작된 이후로 리그에서 최고 비거리를 기록하고 있기도 하고, 평균 비거리도 꽤 나오는 터라 저 곳에 떨어뜨리는 게 어렵지는 않을텐데...!!!
(I couldn't all look around every nook and corner so I was with my friends, however she said iron piece of baseball shape everywhere into this concourse is trace of players who hit homerun of long distance. Almost ones dropped into bleachers, but sometimes homerun balls of some players drop into that concourse, it's commemorating the records regardless of they are players of home team or away team. Since starting statcast era, my guy is recording a homerun of longest distance as well, average distances are pretty long, so won't be difficult sending that spaces...!!!)

내 팀이 아닌 이상에는 야구장의 풍경을 감상하는 것이 주 목표가 되어버렸고, 역시 이 곳도 마찬가지였다. 물론 친구가 원하면 선수들을 가까이에서 볼 수 있는 곳으로 갈 생각도 있었으나, 친구가 가장 좋아하는 선수는 디백스로 이적한 애덤 존스이고, 그녀의 남편도 특별히 좋아하는 선수 없이 팀을 응원하고 있었던 상황이었기 때문에 내가 원하는 자리로 갈 수 있었고, 너무 고맙게도 티켓과 저 나초까지 나에게 선물해줬다! 그래서 나도 그녀를 위해 인천 공항에서 미리 작은 선물을 구입해서 주었다.
똑똑한 메이저리그 팬들이 모인 페이스북 그룹에서 알게 되어 이 날 처음으로 만날 수 있었는데 아름다운 야구장에서 서로를 조금이나마 알게 되어서 너무 행복한 시간을 보냈다. 젠은 변호사이고, 그녀의 남편 트레비스는 그래픽 디자이너인데 어찌나 부러웠던지!!! 내가 영어를 잘 못해서 아주 깊은 이야기까지 나누지는 못해서 그게 아쉬울 따름이었다. DC에 들르면 꼭 다시 보리라 약속했고, 현재는 계속 페이스북에서 교류하고 있다. 정치적인 성향도 아주 잘 맞는 것 같은데 LGBT를 아직 온전히 받아들이지 못하고 있는지라 그녀가 나보다도 더 리버럴인 것 같긴 하다. 하하하~~:)
[Watching view of ballpark except my team's game has become main goal, it was also so here. Of course, if my friends want to sit down seats closing dugout, I can go there, but because her favorite player's Adam Jones moving to Dbacks, her husband follows the team without preferred players especially, I could sit down seats where I want, thankfully they gave ticket and that nachos to me for gift! So I bought a small gift beforehand in Incheon Airport and gave it for her.
I've known them in one Facebook group which is smart fans for MLB, was be able to meet them at first tme, was very happy that we were knew more at each other at beautiful ballpark. Jen's a lawyer and Travis being her husband is Graphic designer, what a awesone!!! It felt lacking so we couldn't talk about deep story because of lacking English skill. If I stop by to Washington DC, we made appointment meeting certainly, are talking on Facebook in succession. I think we match political tendency very well, she is more liberal than me cause I am not accepting LGBT well. Haha :)]

오리올스는 현재 리빌딩 중이라 이기는 게 흔하지 않은 일이었는데 이 날은 내 친구들을 위해서라도 이겨서 안도했던 것 같다. 사진 기술이 부족해서 그렇지, 정말 이 아름다운 모습을 다 담을 수 없었다는 게 슬플 따름이다.
어쨌든 이 캠든 야즈도 내 페이보릿 리스트에 들어갔고, 아마도 내 순위는 PNC 파크-오라클 파크-쿠어스 필드-이 곳-펫코 파크-프로그레시브 필드-시티 필드-펜웨이 파크-티모바일 파크-카우프만 스타디움-개런티드 레이트 필드-글로브 라이프 파크-부시 스타디움 이런 순서로 정리되는 것 같다. ㅎㅎㅎ
(Winning wasn't easy due to that Orioles is rebuilding, I was happy so they won even for my friends. It's so lacking my photography skill, it was really sad what all put this beautiful scene.
Btw, Camden Yards came into my favorite ballpark list, maybe my ranking is arranging PNC Park-Oracle Park-Coors Field-Oriole Park-Petco Park-Progressive Field-Citi Field-Fenway Park-T. Mobile Park-Kauffman Stadium-Guaranteed Rate Field-Globe Life Park-Busch Stadium. ^_^)
